I am at eGFR of 45 now which is a little less than 1 full kidney of function. Large kidney stones block more than one branch of the collecting system of the kidney. They unblocked and stabilized my left kidney in November and then moved to the right kidney in December to remove that stone to preserve as much kidney function as possible. Some people absorb too much calcium from their intestines. Many people who form calcium containing stones have too much calcium in their urine, a condition known as hypercalciuria There are several reasons why hypercalciuria may occur. ![]() That caused my right kidney to develop a uric acid Staghorn kidney stone that was starting to block the opening to the ureter on that side. Calcium stones: Most kidney stones are composed of calcium and oxalate. At NYU Langone, our doctors also frequently treat people with more advanced kidney stone conditions, such as staghorn stones, which are large and can be caused. Kidney stones (also called renal calculi, nephrolithiasis, or urolithiasis) are hard deposits made of minerals and salts that form inside your kidneys. My left kidney had a blockage in the ureter and it had been there for months maybe years - oddly with no pain. I went to urgent care in October for an injury that turned out to be gout, and blood tests showed I had kidney disease with eGFR of only 30% so my kidney function was 30% of normal and my blood was not filtering well through my kidneys, thus the gout. ![]()
